SOULMATES – MORE THAN ONE?

Can you have more than one soulmate in a lifetime?  Soulmates is a term that is battered around a lot, romanticized by the media and in my opinion mostly misunderstood.  You have found your “soul mate” when you meet someone else on life’s journey that meets up with you in mind, body & soul.  That is the most complete type of love relationship, truly as good as it gets!

Often times you meet someone and have a fantastic sexual relationship, your bodies just seem to dance to the same tune, your touches are electric, you can’t keep your eyes or hands off your partner, every hormone is ignited.  But after the new wears off you find that you are not really on the same wave length mentally or emotionally.

Maybe there is a person that you enjoy going head to toe with on a mental level. You can spend hours discussing any subject, having a lively debate or solving a complex problem. You just seem to be able to get inside that other person’s head and share so much, surely you are soulmates.  But, then again, the sex isn’t all that great and after awhile it even starts to mess up the good mental times you had together.

The emotional level is the hardest part, closest to soul-mating.  More than in any other way, we all grow at different emotional levels.  It is a well known fact that women generally grow-up emotionally faster than men, maybe that is because we are the child-bearers and the primary caretakers.  Most men seem to do their emotional growing at mid-life, so there may be a wide difference in most relationships.

When we finally find a relationship that combines all of the elements of mind, body & soul we have come closest to what is “soulmates“.  Can we have more than one in a lifetime?  Only if you are very very lucky!

I know I have to do it
Still sometimes I resist
It isn’t what I want
But how can I desist?

Our journey will be free
As another very wise one said
“The best is yet to be”

I’ll love you when your hair grows thin
and turns a pearly white
Even when my eyes grow dim
and days grow into night

And when my mind needs prodding
Please do it with a smile
We’ll stroll through life together
Even when it takes awhile.

It is a trip I’d rather not take
a journey to avoid
But travel I must

Long Lost Love Letter

Note: This story appeared in a London newpaper, although this couple are not yet seniors, I couldn’t resist sharing this beautiful long lost love letter story!

LONDON (AFP) – “A British man and his Spanish former sweetheart have finally married 16 years after they drifted apart, reunited by a love letter lost behind a fireplace for over a decade, reports said Monday.

Steve Smith and Carmen Ruiz-Perez, both now 42, fell in love 17 years ago when she was a foreign exchange student in Brixham, and got engaged after only a year together.

But their relationship ended after she moved to France to run a shop in Paris.

A few years later, in a bid to rekindle their love, Smith sent a love letter to her mother’s home in Spain. It was placed on the mantelpiece, but slipped down behind the fireplace and was lost for over a decade.

The missing missive was only found when builders removed the fireplace during renovation work.

“When I got the letter I didn’t phone Steve right away because I was so nervous,” Ruiz-Perez told the Herald Express local newspaper.

“I nearly didn’t phone him at all. I kept picking up the phone then putting it down again.

“But I knew I had to make the call.”

When they were reunited, it was as if time had stood still, said Smith, a factory supervisor.

“When we met again it was like a film. We ran across the airport into each other’s arms. We met up and fell in love all over again. Within 30 seconds of setting eyes on each other we were kissing.

“I’m just glad the long lost love letter did eventually end up where it was supposed to be,” he said, after the couple married last Friday.”
